Frequently Asked Questions?

  • What is the difference between donating through Life Tree Anatomical program and the donor symbol on the license?
Organ donation is live transplant to a living person. Donating your body to science is a non-transplant option helping to save countless lives through supporting medical research and education. Typically, a registered organ donor can also donate their body to science.
  • Do I need permission from my spouse or next of kin?
If you are over 18 and of sound mind and body, you may donate your body without anyone else’s consent.
  • Are there any expenses to me or my family?
No. Life Tree Anatomical takes care of the transportation, cremation, and return of ashes. We file all the paperwork with the State.
  • Can next of kin donate a loved one’s body after they pass?
Yes. We will guide you through the process.
  • What is a non-transplant tissue bank?
Non-Transplant Anatomical Donation Organizations, or NADOs, recover human tissue donations which are not intended for transplant into a living patient. Every donation to science has the ability to impact an immeasurable number of lives through advancements in surgical technology, as well as educating and training the medical professionals of tomorrow.
  • Who can donate?
While donating your whole body can benefit so many, it is a decision only you can make. Such an important choice requires serious thought and consideration. One consideration is eligibility. Almost everyone is eligible for whole body donation. However, there are some factors that could prevent being accepted into our program: Age, Weight, Certain Illnesses or Diseases.
  • What happens to cremated remains?
Life Tree Anatomical gives you several options for the disposition of the cremated remains; all of which are provided at no cost to you or your next of kin. You can select to have your ashes returned to your designated next of kin, spreading your ashes in a community garden, or a no return option.
